Prognosis
The prognosis (the probability of recovery) depends on many elements including:
- The type and the grade of the tumor at the moment of the diagnosis and at the moment of the treatment;
- The possibility to remove the tumor and its location;
- Whether cancer cells remain after surgery;
- Whether there are certain changes in the chromosomes;
- Whether the cancer has just been diagnosed or has recurred (come back);
- The patient’s general health.
The prognosis for metastatic brain tumors depend on the following:
- Whether the patient is younger than 60 years;
- Whether there are more than two tumors in the brain or spinal cord;
- The location of the tumor and its response to the treatment;
- Whether the primary tumor continues to grow or spread.
