Adenocortical carcinoma
Adenocortical carcinoma (ACC) is a type of carcinoma which arises from the cells of the cortex of the adrenal gland. The adrenal glands (or suprarenal glands) are endocrine glands that sit on top of the kidneys. They are, with stress, mainly responsible for releasing hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline (epinephrine). ACC is a type of neuroendocrine tumour.
Adenocortical carcinoma is a rare type of cancer but is aggressive. The relative five-year survival is around 30%.
