Memorial funds

A memorial fund is a special fund set up to provide the Cancer Research Society (CRS) with long-term financial support. This fund is used according to the conditions and criteria established by the donor in compliance with the CRS's matching program.

It is an excellent way to honour and perpetuate the memory of a loved one or a group, or to highlight a special contribution made to the CRS.

Memorial funds:

  • Can be named after the donor or any other person the donor chooses;
  • Allow a person, family or group to support a specific cause within the CRS;
  • Ensure continuous support in a given area of research;
  • Can be used to create a scholarship fund—an excellent way for businesses and individuals to get involved in their community.

A memorial fund can be set up using a donation made by a living donor or using a donation made through a will. If the fund is created with a donation from a living donor, the donor and the CRS's representatives must conclude an agreement establishing how the fund will be set up: objectives, name, constitution, fund allocation committee, fund allocation criteria, substitution and visibility.

If a donor prepares a will containing instructions on creating a memorial fund, no other document is required. However, it is best if the donor informs the CRS to ensure that the fund's objectives are compatible and consistent with the CRS's programs and projects.
