CRS OPERATING GRANTS

2012 CRS Operating Grant Competition: the complete application form is now available

The Cancer Research Society (CRS) received 400 letters of intent for the regular operating grant competition 2012. All the letters of intent are accepted. Please read the document ''Status of the letters of intent – 2012 CRS Operating Grants'' available on your right for more details.

It is important to note that, unfortunately, the CRS does not envisage increasing to a significant degree the number of projects that will be awarded in 2012. Considering the record number of letters of intent received this year, the CRS strongly suggests that you consider submitting only one grant application in February 2012.

The candidates must fill in the form ''Application Form – 2012 CRS Operating Grants'' and the signature page availables on your right. The deadline for submission of a grant application is February 15, 2012. Applications must be courier stamped on this day. The signature page must be sent with the application.

For all details on the complete application submission, please read the document ''Instructions - 2012 CRS Operating Grants'' available on your right. You can also visit our “Regular competitions” section by clicking here.

Specific Operating Grants

Over the last years, the CRS is proud to offer additional operating grants to the scientific community through its regular competition. These grants on specific types of cancer are added to the regular operating grants that may apply to the broad field of cancer. The funding of these specific grants is made possible thanks to important partnership that the CRS did develop over the last years with invaluable partners.

This year, for its regular operating grant competition 2012, the CRS is offering additional grants in the following specific fields:

  • Environment-Cancer:
Up to four (4) grants in this field could be supported through the CRS’ Environment-Cancer FundTM. This fund was created by the CRS in 2006 and is dedicated to compiling a large body of scientific evidence to demonstrate how environmental factors (e.g. living and work conditions, and lifestyle choices) affect one’s risk of developing cancer. Since 2006, the Environment-Cancer FundTM is financed in part by “Read for the Cure”, a non-profit volunteer organization, formed by passionate Canadian book lovers. Members of this organization coordinate outstanding literary evenings, putting the spotlight on authors of reputation from the publisher Random House.
  • Prostate Cancer:
This year, thanks to its partnership with PROCURE, the CRS could attribute a first specific grant in the field of prostate cancer. PROCURE is a Quebec non-profit organization, dedicated to the promotion of excellence as regards education, treatment and research in the fight against prostate cancer. It is partly thanks to the Tour du Courage – PROCURE that the funds making it possible to give this grant were raised. The grant CRS – Tour du Courage PROCURE will contribute to make difference in the fight against this disease which reaches 1 Canadian out of 7.
  • Neuroendocrine Tumours:
Moreover, through a partnership with the Carcinoid NeuroEndocrine Tumour Society Canada (CNETS), the CRS will be co-funding one (1) operating grant on carcinoid neuroendocrine tumours. Grant applications for this specific grant will be exceptionally accepted even if a letter of intent has not been submitted. Please contact the CRS to suggest which panel should review your grant application or indicate your choice manually on the first page of your two paper copies.

Applicants responding to these proposals should fill in the appropriate box on the application form for the CRS 2012 Operating Grant Competition.

GRePEC

The GRePEC (Research and prevention group on environment-cancer) is one of the ways in which the CRS supports research into the environmental causes of cancer.

This program, in partnership with the Fonds de la recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS) and the Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation du Québec (MDEIE), aims to develop research on the links between the environment and cancer. The environment is herein defined as the chemical and physical elements in our living and work environments, and in our lifestyles (diet, physical activity, etc.).

2012 CRS GRePEC Competition : the letter of intent form is now available

The Cancer Research Society (CRS) is pleased to request letters of intent for its research program in environment-cancer, the 2012 CRS GRePEC Competition.
