Breast Cancer
The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation (QBCF) is pleased to continue its collaboration with the Cancer Research Society (CRS) by investing more than $7 million in 14 research projects in the Quebec breast cancer research community. Once again, the QBCF has relied on the CRS's extensive project evaluation expertise and its insight in the grant approval process. The list of all selected strategic grants for 2012-2014 is available for download on your right.
These QBCF and CRS strategic grants for breast cancer research will be effective for three years starting in January 2012.

Operating Grants 2011-2013
On August 4, 2011, the members of the Board of Directors of the Cancer Research Society (CRS) approved a new investment in 47 cancer research projects in Canada. Please note that this year, three grants will be supported by the CRS' Environment-Cancer FundTM and one by the Marjolaine Bazinet Fund. In addition, through a partnership with CNETS (Carcinoid NeuroEndocrine Tumour Society) Canada, the CRS is co-funding one operating grant on carcinoid neuroendocrine tumors. Post-Doctoral Fellowships 2011-2013
On August 4, 2011, the members of the Board of Directors of the Cancer Research Society (CRS) approved a new investment in 3 post-doctoral fellowships:
1. Mathieu Tremblay - CRS/Gerald B. Price Post-Doctoral Fellowship
Location of research: The Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Research Centre, McGill University, Montreal
Title of project: Role of GATA3 factor in prostate cancer
Amount: $42,000
2. Nicole White - Regular Post-Doctoral Fellowship
Location of research: St Michael's Hospital, Toronto
Title of project: Identifying novel biomarkers for renal cell carcinoma through quantitative proteomic analysis: Moving into an era of personalized medicine
Amount: $37,000
3. Benjamin Lacroix - Regular Post-Doctoral Fellowship
Location of research: Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer, Université de Montréal
Title of project: Quantitative Analysis of Cytokinesis in situ
Amount: $37,000
CRS / Rob Lutterman Pancreatic Cancer Research Grant 2010-2013
The Cancer Research Society (CRS) is pleased to announce the winners of the second CRS / Rob Lutterman Pancreatic Cancer Research Grant Competition:
Dr. Michel L. Tremblay / Dr. Bruno Gagnon / Dr. Neil McDonald
McGill University
Title of project: Linking cancer anorexia-cachexia syndrome, resting energy expenditure and chronic inflammation state in patients with pancreatic cancer through cellular metabolic mechanisms and their unique metastatic control.
This competition was launched in honour of the 10th anniversary of the Rob Lutterman Memorial Fund and its continuous support of the Cancer Research Society. The goal of the CRS / Rob Lutterman Pancreatic Cancer Research Grant is to provide targeted funding for basic research on the causes and treatments of pancreatic cancer. Dr. Norman Kneteman was the first recipient in 2007of this 3-year grant.

Dr. Jack Siemiatycki (Centre de recherche du CHUM - CRCHUM) / Dr. Michael Pollak (Lady Davis Institute of the Jewish General Hospital)
Title of project : Development of an instrument for assessing occupational exposures in cancer case-control studies and its application to cancers of lung, brain and ovary
This competition was launched following the creation of the Environment-Cancer FundTM, that is dedicated to compiling a large body of scientific evidence to demonstrate the impact of environment factors, including the chemical and physical elements in our living and occupational environment, and our lifestyles (diet, physical activity, etc.), on the risk of developing cancer.
