  • 3rd Annual Ponsard Reunion Hockey Game

    Date: October, 2012
Location: 4090, Royal Avenue, Montreal, Quebec H4A 2M5
Event organizer: Mr. Glenn Snyder, 450 826-0411

Gerry Snyder opened Snyder's Sport Shop in 1946, at the age of 26, after returning to Montreal after the war. The "Store" was located on Queen Mary Road, in the Snowdon neighbourhood, and was a store for everyone. There were so many young boys in the area who wanted to play hockey that he decided to start a hockey league. Those were the days before television, so after school, everyone headed to the rink, stick and skates over a shoulder. From 1950 until 1965, the little rink at Ponsard Park on Circle Road, now Parc Maurice Cullen, was the place to play. Literally, over a thousand young boys, now in their 50's, 60's and even 70's, grew up together playing hockey. That is why over 120 former players gathered at the1st Ponsard Park Reunion in 2008. Thus, a new tradition was born.
