Since 2006, Read for the Cure has been organizing a series of literary events featuring respected Random House authors to raise funds for the Cancer Research Society’s environment-cancer research fund. During the Toronto edition of this year’s literary evenings, the Cancer Research Society honored the Organizing Committee Members of Read for the Cure, as well as Principal Partner Random House of Canada for their outstanding generosity and support over the past five years. The aim of these events is to enjoy good books and good company, while helping our researchers find a cure!

Read for the Cure is a non-profit volunteer organization, formed by passionate Canadian book lovers, to raise money for the Cancer Research Society (CRS). Members of this organization coordinate literary evenings, in close collaboration with Random House Canada, Signature Partner of this event.

Environment‑Cancer

For more than two decades, the CRS has been funding projects that explore the link between cancer and our environment.

In October 2006, the CRS broke new ground with the creation of the Environment-Cancer FundTM, a new initiative created to better understand cancer. The Environment-Cancer FundTM is dedicated to compiling a large body of scientific evidence to demonstrate how environmental factors (e.g. living and work conditions, and lifestyle choices) affect one’s risk of developing cancer. This fund also promotes a partnership approach between businesses, non-profit organizations and governments in support of scientific knowledge.
