The marathon, a foot race covering a distance of 42.195 km, is the second longest distance competition in the Olympic Games (the longest being the 50-km walk). This sporting event, the brainchild of French philosopher Michel Bréal, was first conceived for the 1896 Olympics in Athens to commemorate Greek messenger Phidippides’ run from Marathon to Athens to proclaim Greece's victory over Persia in 490 B.C.  What stories our marathon runners will have to tell their respective heroes!

Here are the details about this Challenge :

After a first edition in July of 1896, the Paris Marathon was reintroduced on September 18, 1976 and today is an extremely popular event. In 2010, the 35th edition of the International Paris Marathon saw over 40,000 runners at the starting line on the popular Champs-Elysées. Nearly 220,000 cheerful bystanders lined up alongside the Marathon's route, from the Bastille to the Quais de Seine, with a detour through the Bois de Boulogne, to rally on the participants and enjoy the 50 or so festivals and musical performances along the streets of the capital.
