Identification of novel biomarker in multiple myeloma therapy resistance

Team: Research center: University Health Network, Toronto
Province: Ontario

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a currently incurable B-cell tumor with survivals ranging from several months to a
few years. Novel prognostic markers and new therapeutic approaches are urgently needed to improve clinical outcome. We recently identified a promising protein called MARCKS which is highly expressed in MM patients who are resistant to a novel drug called bortezomib. We plan to validate the prognostic relevance of MARCKS in a large cohort of MM patients and evaluate its role in drug resistance in MM.
