Role of neurotensin receptor in cancer chronic pain

Team: Research center: Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Sherbrooke
Province: Quebec

Having cancer does not necessarly mean living with pain. However, presently 60 to 90% of patients having advanced cancer experience moderate to severe pain, independently of their age and sex.  Bone metastasis are intense source of severe pain that escape existing drug therapies such as morphine. Using an animal model mimicking pathologic conditions observed in clinical cases of bone cancer, our project aim to develop a new class of non-morphinic analgesic targeting  the  neurotensin NTS1 and NTS2 receptors.  Such new compounds are unlikely to cure patients, but will certainly help them to improve their quality of life to a reasonable level.
