The Cancer Research Society Division of Epidemiology in the Department of Oncology at McGill University
In 1988, the Cancer Research Society (CRS) provided a 1.5 million dollar endowment to McGill University for the creation of the Cancer Research Society Division of Epidemiology. The first Director of the division was Dr. G. Hill (1988-1989), followed by Deputy Directors, Drs. B. Leyland-Jones and J. Bailar (1990-1994). Dr. Eduardo Franco has directed the Division since April 1995.
The Cancer Research Society Division of Epidemiology is part of the Department of Oncology and of the Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics of McGill University. Continuously involved in epidemiologic research, its portfolio of studies specifically targets:
- Cervical Cancer
- Upper Aero-digestive Tract Cancers
- Childhood Malignancies
- Prostate Cancer
- Methods
- Palliative Care
- Infections and Cancer
The Division of Epidemiology provides expert assistance to the Department of Oncology at McGill and to the various hospital oncology units in the assessment of clinical trials and other projects. The staff and students are always on hand to help researchers with their epidemiologic data analysis needs, particularly the analysis of cancer patient survival, which requires substantial expertise in using specialized statistical software.
