The Guzzo Environment-Cancer Research Chair of the Cancer Research Society in partnership with the Université de Montréal
In 2008, thanks to the Environment-Cancer FundTM, the Cancer Research Society (CRS) launched a large-scale project: the Guzzo Environment-Cancer Chair of the Cancer Research Society in partnership with the Université de Montréal. Its objective is to gather the maximum amount of scientific evidence to help explain the causes of cancer. The research potential of this project is wide-ranging since it includes many types of cancer and untold numbers of agents to which human beings are exposed during their lifetime.
According to the holder of the Chair, Dr. Jack Siemiatycki, a professor at the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine and a world-renowned epidemiologist, “The best and most humane approach to reducing the risks of developing cancer is by far through prevention of the disease. However, it is unfortunately the area of cancer research that is the least developed and funded.”
The Guzzo Environment-Cancer Research Chair combines:
- The expertise and knowledge of a team of researchers headed by prominent researcher Dr Jack Siemiatycki;
- The experience and know-how of two organizations dedicated to excellence and innovation: the Université de Montréal and the Cancer Research Society;
- The Guzzo family's generosity and commitment to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
Cinémas Guzzo's investment in the creation of the Guzzo Environment-Cancer Research represents tangible proof of the Guzzo family's commitment to support the well-being of the community. Every year, Mr. and Mrs. Guzzo host the annual Notte In Bianco, which represents a unique benefit whose proceeds are donated exclusively and directly to support cancer research.
