Paris Marathon – 2012
The four participants of the Paris Marathon have returned to Canada! They each raised a minimum of $5,000 to support cancer research. We congratulate them on their great accomplishment!
The marathon, a foot race covering a distance of 42.195 km, is the second longest distance competition in the Olympic Games (the longest being the 50-km walk). This sporting event, the brainchild of French philosopher Michel Bréal, was first conceived for the 1896 Olympics in Athens to commemorate Greek messenger Phidippides’ run from Marathon to Athens to proclaim Greece's victory over Persia in 490 B.C. What stories our marathon runners will have to tell their respective heroes!
