Regional Director, Ottawa Office

Description

Reporting to the Deputy Executive Director, and working in partnership with the CRS senior fundraising team and key volunteers, the Regional Director will play an integral role in building awareness of and enhancing support for the Cancer Research Society.

Given the scope of the fundraising programs for which the incumbent is responsible, he must have extensive experience in all aspects of fundraising and demonstrate superior management skills.

Interactions with the various committees under his supervision must be conducted in a professional and courteous manner. This job has a direct impact on the achievement of the organization's objectives.

Primary responsibilities

  • An entrepreneurial and enthusiastic individual who thrives on the challenge of building programs and managing multiple priorities, the Regional Director, Ottawa Office will demonstrate previous success in developing and implementing effective, efficient fundraising programs.
  • The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with broad experience in annual and major gift programs, sponsorships, marketing the cause events, stewardship activities, donor recognition programs and constituent relations.
  • The ideal candidate will demonstrate business acumen, including the hands-on organizational skills required in managing the operational aspects of a regional office.

Fundraising

  • In consultation with the Deputy Executive Director, developing a strategic plan and a detailed action plan for the Ottawa area and English-speaking Canada in order to progressively grow the fundraising results from these regions, in accordance with the overall CRS organizational plan.
  • Proposing, creating and seizing new revenue, research and partnership opportunities with donors, suppliers, sponsors and various levels of government.
  • Designing and managing fundraising programs in the Ottawa area and in English-speaking Canada with defined goals and targeting donations from individuals (major gifts, annual gifts, In-honour, In-memoriam and planned gifts), corporations (matching gifts, sponsorships), events (cause related marketing, signature and third party events) and foundations.

Management

  • Managing the Regional Office operations, and directly supervising and managing one Regional Office support staff member.
  • Managing the activities of various committees associated with the Regional Office.
  • Periodically developing, revising and updating the Regional Office’s policies, procedures and administrative tools.

Representation

  • At multiple levels
  • Serving as a visible and credible ambassador for CRS, both within the organization and externally.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications/marketing, business administration or a related discipline 
  • Donor pyramid
  • Taxation and estate planning
  • The Income Tax Act
  • Databases (Raiser’s Edge an asset)
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Fluently bilingual (both written and oral)

Concrete and proven experience

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of direct fundraising experience (major and planned gifts an asset)
